At his Stud he stands several Stallions, including Fürst Grandios and Belissimo M who is rated one of the best in Germany at present in breeding and performance. Michael was an instructor for 13 years at the State Stud of NRW in Warendorf and was educating “Bereiter” which is the apprenticeship to train both horses and riders in a professional manner. Janina Kletke is the “Bereiter” of Carola Koppelmann a member of the German Dressage National Team. In order for SVDA Members to take full advantage of the skills & knowledge of these two top German Coaches we have arranged: A Two Day Workshop $330 per rider for the 2-day workshop. This will be a European style clinic with the opportunity for you and your horse to progress via a series of lessons with an internationally recognised instructor using the German Training Scale. Includes 2 ridden session and 1 theory session per day. Lunch is included. Limited to 12 places. The workshop will be held over 2 days and involve 2 one hour lessons to be conducted in the morning and afternoon (2 riders per instructor - we will endeavour to pair riders of simiar levels), followed by a theory session inc video analysis of your riding.
Michael and Janina will work with you in identifying and resolving problem areas for you and your horse. They will also provide practical training advice to improve your riding abilities, your horse and the overall picture of you as a combination together.
The subsequent theory session will allow you to consolidate the practical and hands on advice provided in the lessons with the technical basis to further clarify the information provided. The theory session will be invaluable to you as a rider as it will provide feedback and further explore the rationale behind the improvements made during the day.
This workshop is open to riders/horses of all levels.
Please note that the Michael & Janina cater for ALL levels of horses & riders, therefore this is a great opportunity open to all members.

Swan Valley Dressage Association welcomes back German Coaches: .
The workshop format was a new and interesting approach conducted by SVDA. We were fortunate enough to have two wonderfully skilled riders who also demonstrated that they are also great teachers and communicators, to conduct the clinic. Each session involved two riders with each instructor. The first session on Thursday started with the warm up and an individual assessment by Michael & Janina as to the rider and horse's capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. After a quick 10 minute review the lesson began and video was taken of each rider at the beginning and at the end of the lesson for analysis later.
There were two lessons per day over the two day clinic. The final session on the second day involved each rider having a dedicated 20 min one on one session with the instructor which was video taped in its entirety. The clinic was attended by riders at different levels who were matched with similar horse/rider combinations .
While the concept was new, the content was traditional. Both Michael & Janina concentrated on the basics that tend to get lost as we often ride on our own without the benefit of an instructor or some experienced eyes on the ground. Further, it was explained in easy to understand concepts despite the fact that English was not Michael & Janina's first language ! For some riders it was getting the horse to respect the inside leg and move to the outside hand. For others it was getting the horse to sit more in the collected movements and to demonstrate more expression. Michael & Janina both identified the issues facing the individual combinations in each lesson and were able to provide advice and explanations that provided instantaneous benefits.
Each session of working with Michael & Janina was video taped and then replayed to the riders in the theory session held during the lunch time break. On the second day the riders were able to see obvious improvement in the horses way of going, even in such a relatively short period of time . The general consensus was that they would love to see what was possible if they had the opportunity for a clinic lasting a week !
Apart from the gains made in the lessons, the riders also enjoyed fabulous catering, good company and the opportunity to have two days totally focused upon their horse, their riding and the combination of horse and rider together. Pure indulgence!
Both Michael & Janina were more than happy to impart their knowledge and expertise and were totally approachable during the two days. Michael also presented a seminar in relation to the modern sport horse which prompted a lively discussion during the lunch time break on Friday.
We look forward to Michael & Janina returning next year and would recommend that everyone book quickly as this years group of riders have all indicated that they would like to be part of the next clinic.
"SVDA did an amazing job putting together the two day workshop with Michael Schmidt and Janina Kletke, the format was fantastic! You could work on something in the morning, have a feel for how it should be, under the coaches guidance and thanks to JJ and Richard who took the videos of each rider, we could see how it actually looked! It was brilliant to be able to have that 'feeling' fresh in your mind and be able to see it almost straight away.
Stephanie Spencer Even more wonderful was being able to do the same thing after lunch with the other instructor. Whilst they were both along the same lines, they had different techniques. A combination of the two definately worked well.
Aleta Shilton "As a novice level rider I was a bit nervous about having lessons with two international coaches but within 2 minutes all my worries were blown away. Both Michael and Janina were not only approachable and friendly but really were passionate about helping you to improve no matter what your level of skill or experience. I felt that over the two days not only did my horse improve but my understanding of the concepts did too.
I really enjoyed watching the other riders and felt that I got a lot out of seeing their lessons as well. The video taping of each lesson and feedback during the lunch time break really bought home the advice given and helped everything to "crystallise". I was really happy with the progress we made over the two days and am going to use the DVD of my lessons as a reference point for the future." Aleta Shilton | |||||||
